A new trend is sweeping the nation and beyond called jamskating. What is jamskating you ask? A blend of roller skating, break dancing, acrobatics, gymnastics, and dancing to fast paced music. Most skaters choose songs that could be referred to as old school skating music or newer songs that are remakes (rap) of some of the older songs. Mostly you will find teens and early twenty-somethings jamskating, but you will undoubtedly find skaters younger and older as well. Recent Atlanta news in the world of jamskating comes from the World Skating Association (WSA) Section III Regionals event on January 22, 2005. Skaters competed in an all day long event at Sparkles Roller Rink in Marietta , GA. The event began at 5:30 PM and ran until just after 2:00 am when the awards were handed out. Everyone skated well and wowed the crowd. There definitely was some awesome talent present. As always some new moves were performed that really impressed and inspired the skaters to try new things. Judging these events can prove challenging since skaters are free to use any moves they wish. Creativity is key as well as keeping with the music. In pairs and teams events the skaters keep in total synchronization to attain a higher score. The more difficult moves that are included in a routine, the higher the score the skater receives. It truly is challenging to describe jam skating in words, however if you get to see it in person or perhaps in a video, then you can really appreciate what it is all about.
